Wanneroo Suburb Profile

Wanneroo is a northern coastal suburb of Perth, located approximately 25 kilometres from the Perth CBD. It is roughly 20.1 square kilometres in size and is located within the City of Wanneroo council.

Wanneroo is mainly an established suburb with some undeveloped areas in the eastern part of the suburb. The area saw major development in the 1970s with steady increases from the mid-1990s as new properties were built in the suburb.

It is situated on the Swan Coastal Plain, the Wanneroo wetlands stretch along the coastline and to the north and south of the suburb.

In the 2016 census, the population of Wanneroo was 12,062 people – an increase from 11,900 people in 2011. The predominant age group in the area is 30-39 years old, with households being primarily couples with children.

Homeowners in Wanneroo are likely to be repaying $1800 - $2399 on their monthly home loan repayments. In 2016, 74.9% of the homes in Wanneroo were owner-occupied – down from 75.1% in 2011.

Currently, the median sales price of homes in Wanneroo is $415,000. With the average rent cost being $330 per week.

Wanneroo has three primary schools; Wanneroo Primary School, St Anthony’s Catholic Primary School and East Wanneroo Primary School. There is also one high school that services the area, Wanneroo Secondary College.

There are several parks, gardens and lakes in the area, as well as a community centre and civic centre to serve the neighbourhood. The suburb is also home to the Wanneroo Central Shopping Centre, Wanneroo Town Centre and the Wanneroo Show Grounds. The showgrounds host the annual Wanneroo Agricultural Show, which is state’s largest Regional Agriculture Show and is held every November.

Wanneroo also features the Barbagallo Raceway, a road racing circuit opened in 1969, which is the home of motor racing in Western Australia and holds the V8 Supercars championship every year.
